Christmas and New Year is one of Rwanda's busiest car hire periods. Here is exactly what to expect, how early to book your kigali car rental, and what the holiday season looks like.
Kigali Car Rental at Christmas and New Year: Book Before Vehicles Run Out
Christmas and New Year is one of Rwanda's busiest travel windows — and one of the most competitive periods for kigali car rental availability. International visitors, Rwandan diaspora returning home, and domestic travelers all converge on Kigali at the same time. Book early or accept limited choices.
Why Kigali Car Rental Gets Scarce Over Christmas
- International arrivals peak in the week before Christmas and around New Year's Eve
- Rwandan diaspora returns in significant numbers for the festive period
- Gorilla trekking demand remains high — December falls in Rwanda's short dry season
- Corporate year-end events create additional vehicle demand
How Early to Book Kigali Car Rental for Christmas
For Christmas (December 23-27) and New Year (December 30 - January 2): book your kigali car rental at least 6-8 weeks in advance. By early December, most 4x4s and Land Cruisers are already reserved.
What Rwanda Looks Like Over the Holiday
- Gorilla trekking permits available — Christmas week in the forest is magical
- Akagera National Park — late December conditions excellent
- Lake Kivu resorts — families gather at lakeside accommodation
- Kigali is lively and well-organized for New Year celebrations
Christmas Airport Transfers
Confirming your airport transfer in advance is especially important during this period — our flight tracking service means we are there regardless of holiday delays.
